Kindle Fire vs. iPad mini

Apple announced last week the iPad Mini.

Since the announcement, Amazon has sold a record amount of Kindle Fire HDs the day after the iPad mini was announced. Now the big question is which one is better: the Kindle Fire HD or the iPad mini?

Below is a chart from Amazon of the Kindle Fire vs. iPad mini:

Which device would you get? And why?

  1. IF I had to choose between the two… I’d get an iPad mini, even thought it’s more expensive (the one place I think the Fire has a true advantage over the iPad mini, chart notwithstanding).

  2. Apple really failed on this. Why produce a product that compares to your iPad2 model that came out two-years ago? Fail, Fail, Tim Fail Cook.

    • Yeah, I was really hoping the price would at least start somewhere under $300. So I take it you are not going out to buy one? haha

    • The point you’re missing is that it doesn’t compare to the iPad 2 – to anyone except computer geeks like us who like to compare processor cores and clock speeds and benchmark tests. To consumers it’s an easier to hold and cheaper, smaller iPad.

A product that is better designed, better quality, and easier to use will outsell one with marginally higher tech specs any day.

Like my teenage cousin who sneered when I pulled out my iPhone 5 the other day. He’s walking around all the time with his Samsung/Droid whatever with a ~4.5 screen (looking like he’s got a small tablet on his ear, how are you supposed to carry those huge things in your pocket anyway?) He doesn’t get why people line up for a new iPhone when “the next greatest thing is already here…”

I walked into the Verizon store on iPhone 5 launch day and there’s an Verizon employee at the door taking names for slots in line. He tells me there’s at least a 30 minute wait to talk to any reps because they’re busy. (Usually no wait time at this particular store.) I play dumb and ask him, “What did Samsung launch a new phone today or something?” He paused for a minute and then we had a good laugh together.

      • Agreed. There will definitely be a lot of people who will buy the iPad mini mainly because it’s smaller or because they can save more money with getting the iPad mini.

  3. Ben, No way would I buy it, I do not want a iPad2 again. However, I may make the dumb upgrade from the iPad3 to the iPad4 because I am sick of carrying two chargers with me everywhere I go for my phone and pad.

Brent, thanks for telling me your experiences and stories.
